original mixed media painting
framed size 90 × 60 cm
the artist
Anna’s minimalist mark-making is like poetry – each brushstroke and splash of paint carefully considered and deliberate – laden with meaning and purpose. A London-based artist, she most often works with water-based medias on paper, raw canvas and wood – the organic properties of these materials shining through. Transformation and Japanese aesthetics are key areas of focus, with influences from the zen philosophy ‘Ma’ and Shibumi principles.
the story
‘Arizona V’ captures the rhythm of Arizona’s rising and setting sun, embodying the Japanese principles of Shibumi - encouraging the viewer to pause and experience the essence of the sun’s rise and fall. Immersed for a week in Arizona’s cactus-dotted landscape, Anna drew inspiration from the earthy tones of a cactus forest. Her combination of organic brushstrokes and precise geometric shapes forms a dynamic portrayal of cacti and golden skies, evoking the varied beauty of the desert.
