about the artist
a south london based artist focusing on lino printing, ellen has cultivated an intimate and therapeutic creative practice which asks us as viewers to explore the beauty of stillness. originally from california, ellen studied her bachelor of art history in rome and has taken inspiration from japanese ukiyo-e printmaking, greek and roman pottery and renaissance art. her serene, restrained and thoughtful artworks have arisen from an exploration of self as she searches for a sense of home in her own being.
about the artwork
‘My years are filled with leaving and arriving, ebb and flow, loss and gain. I crave permanence, safety. I think safety means a state of unchanging ease. I think I need to control my circumstances so that they are just right, laboring over every decision to avert disaster, a week spent on a simple yes or no. But that’s not so. Instead security is the ability to let things fall away when their time comes, and to keep moving forward with what is in front of you. It is knowing how to release what was once good in favour of what’s calling your name, the understanding that all things must end to allow for something new. It is turbulent, exhilarating, and steady all at once.’
this artwork is a signed and numbered limited edition of 12 linoleum print hand-printed on a sheet of 53 x 55 cm zerkall paper. the artwork is framed bespoke by floating and raising the print within a contemporary matte white box frame measuring 63.5 x 66 cm.
as all prints are hand pressed, each edition will have minor differences - which adds to the character of the print.
