oil pastels on wood panel
the artist
Eva Ray Studio is the creative space of Laura Brown – a fine artist based in Whitstable who channels her love of pattern and colour into dream-like, gentle and distinctive pastel artworks. Highly inspired by her time living and studying jewellery design in India, Laura’s work sings of the aesthetics of spaces like Jaipur and Kerala, whilst also drawing on her coastal surroundings in Kent.
the story
This captivating piece seems full of magic and life – transporting us to the hill stations in Kerala, India where Laura lived and worked for 6 years. The towering trees and mosaic-like colour peeping through create the impression of a sacred, surreal space. This was a place of escape, to a cooler climate full of lush fauna – a haven of peace. For Laura it also marked the start of her creative journey and a weaving together of the incredible influences and experiences she gathered whilst travelling India.
