the artist

anna is a local walthamstow-based artist who focuses on printmaking and runs inky cuttlefish studios in gnome house. born in south africa, anna studied fine art at the university of natal and then later graduated from the university of the arts london with a masters in printmaking. her delicate and distinctive lino prints have become well known across e17 and have reached various corners of the globe. she has passionate ties to africa which reveal themselves in her practice, as well as fascinations with folklore, mythology, legends and the afterlife.

the story

one of local artist anna alcock’s sacred spaces is her garden. a quiet retreat and a place of delight. in this space anna feels connected to the natural world which so often inspires her intricate work. in this wood engraving she draws on her sensory experiences in this sanctuary, and the elements which bring her joy – the shape of the leaves, bird song in the air, the gently buzzing of insects, ethereal spider webs and whispering trees. 

 the artwork

this artwork is a limited edition of 100 wood engraving on somerset cotton paper. the image size is approximately 7.5 x 7cm and it has been mounted and framed in a matte white wood frame measuring 27 x 33 cm.
