about the artist
london – based sarah morgan is an intaglio printmaker who focuses on collagraph printing. her work is an exploration of her own observations, memories, emotions and experiences. sarah expertly uses the collagraph process to capture a unique and distinctive view of the world - allowing the texture and the freedom of this form to imbue her imagery with a sense of romanticism and simple ethereal beauty.
the story
in this artwork we are transported back in time to whipps cross bathing ponds, the first lido in waltham forest, dug out by hand in 1905. it was a popular local swimming spot for many years before it’s closure in 1982. here sarah draws our attention to some old locker tags – based on an archival image she found. she treats them with love and care – we can see they look worn and tactile – an emblem of a past life. always drawn to small everyday items that seem to survive the test of time – sarah is interested in how these items transport us back in time - evoking memories when you hold them. traces of forgotten moments and past adventures.
