the artist

jonathan’s abstract compositions are alive with playfulness, intuitive design and the joy of his creative process. he uses intense colour combinations, complex layering techniques and masking skills to create dynamic one-of-a-kind screen prints that have gathered him admirers across the globe. as a textiles and surface pattern design graduate, the south london-based artist brings an adeptness with visual material, form and design to his printmaking studio. working in an organic and experimental way, his artworks carry a unique energy and vibrance.

the story

this series of 4 unique screen prints were inspired by the larkswood lido in chingford – one of the uk’s largest open air swimming facilities. opening in 1936, for a long time this was a popular place for londoners to travel to for a day of swimming, diving, sunbathing and leisure.

in these large-scale abstract screen prints jonathan dives into the colour palette of this forgotten space – using archival photos to get a sense of the place. an earthy, mossy green reflects the surrounding area and fringes of epping forest, whilst pastel and pink tones evoke the structure of the lido. pale blue peeps through – the glistening water in the sunlight.
