kate Mary "breakfast study" original
kate Mary "breakfast study" original
original oil pastel on paper
about the artist
we would love to live in kate mary’s world – a place of sun-drenched european interiors and luscious plant life. spaces filled with tiled floors, potted plants, wrought iron balconies. tapestries of colour spilling through windows and towering archways. these artworks spark memories of long summer days overseas. the thrill of discovering a new landscape. the feeling of warmth on our skin, a lingering floral scent in the air, the sound of wind whistling through leaves.
for this collection kate draws upon her sensory experiences whilst travelling the french riviera, cyprus and brussels. focusing on the contrast between the built environment and botanical details – she explores light, pattern and architecture. using oil pastels and acrylics, she evokes an immersive, nostalgic sense of space which tugs at our memories, and whisks us away to distant lands.
the story
whilst this collection is based on kate’s sensory experiences travelling the french riviera, cyprus and brussels, these spaces take on a life of their own. imbued with otherworldly colour and adorned with striking pattern, they tug at our memories and dreams. they transport us to other lands.
