clare halifax "walthamstow stadium"
limited edition of 75 screen print
about the artist
in clare’s world all is harmonious and quiet. bird’s fly in the sky, colours sit gently alongside each other, delicate patterns adorn surfaces, backgrounds, rivers and skies. an east london-based artist and traditional printmaker, her intricate and illustrative artworks demonstrate an incredibly skilful use of line, as well as her love for representation and narrative. with a background in textile design, she carefully balances design, pattern and colour in each work to create a contemporary work which connects to a particular place, city, building or vignette of the natural world.
the story
here clare meticulously details the famous facade of walthamstow stadium - paying attention to the intricacies of the structure and architectural design of this iconic building. printed in multiple layers - it has a strong retro aesthetic and feels like we are returning to the space as in a dream or memory. instead of a space buzzing with life and movement - through clare's eyes we see a calm and serene space which has continued to be important to walthamstow - despite belonging to the past. a quiet trace of a previous existence - whispering of the stories held within.
