steven irwin "nocturne"
digital and analogue photomontage, edition of 25
about the artist
steven's work explores the tension and coexistence of nature and the man-made. photographic images are juxtaposed to stage surreal, cinematic scenes rich in possibilities of interpretation: dream-like, elegiac and contemplative.
the artist will often reference the 17th century vanitas compositions that consist of decaying objects, symbolic of the inevitability of death and the transience and vanity of earthly achievements. the work depict objects that have rusted - a contemporary representation of decay and mortality within urban environments.
about the artwork
"nocturne" is from a series of photomontages called "skylines". city skylines and iconic buildings have been modified and arranged to create abstracted scenes which consider the evolution of urban spaces.
the artwork is available in one size - 51 x 51 cm and is available to purchase either as an open edition print or a limited edition print with numbered, signed by the artist and with certificate of authenticity.
