victoria young jamieson "storm clearing"
victoria young jamieson "storm clearing"
framed original mixed media painting
about the artist
victoria gets much of her inspiration from the surrounding countryside in dorset and the coast of cornwall. whether it’s waking up on the windswept and wild coastline or walking the dog through a winding overgrown path, constantly catching up with nature's change. when she embarks on a painting she draws upon the emotions of the day - the energy, temperature, time of day, and the bustle of wildlife and birdsong. using a process-led approach and the constant manipulation of paint, she paints intuitively until a composition, colour, or mark emerges and ignites a moment of excitement. welcoming mistakes, victoria is invigorated when the painting takes an unexpected turn, becoming more compelling with an element of the unknown.
story
one of victoria’s happy places is the landscape around her home. living in north cornwall on a cliff top which overlooks the atlantic ocean, she is surrounded by inspiration. this artwork focuses on this vista during a storm – capturing the moment as it clears. victoria loves watching the drama and destruction of a storm give way to calmness and quiet. that moment everything springs back to life, light bursting onto the shore and birds emerging from their nests in the cliffs. there is a sense of togetherness, survival and grounding to reset.
