original mixed media painting
framed size 90 × 60 cm
the artist
Anna’s minimalist mark-making is like poetry – each brushstroke and splash of paint carefully considered and deliberate – laden with meaning and purpose. A London-based artist, she most often works with water-based medias on paper, raw canvas and wood – the organic properties of these materials shining through. Transformation and Japanese aesthetics are key areas of focus, with influences from the zen philosophy ‘Ma’ and Shibumi principles.
the story
‘Arizona VIII’ delves into the Japanese principles of Shibumi, inviting the viewer to pause and experience the effortless elegance in simplicity. After a week in Arizona’s cactus forest, Anna was immersed in the vast sky, the warm tones of the and the powerful contrast of colours. Each brushstroke and splatter extrude with energy, grounded by the faint suggestion of cacti and the distant horizon.
