the artist
A bristol based printmaker, anna harley’s eye-catching landscape prints have a stark freshness and graphic beauty. her influences are varied and reflect her nomadic childhood, an arts and craft background and connections to places like scandinavia and japan. each print-making journey is one of discovery, and she enjoys letting the process lead the artwork – embracing happy accidents and unexpected results along the way.
the story
who knew that ‘flamboyance’ is the collective noun for flamingos? in this artwork anna whisks us away to necker, richard branson’s home island where these birds (once native to the caribbean) have found a luxurious new home. they are free to roam where they choose and fly off to other islands, but always return to the salt marshes on necker. in this piece we glimpse their startling, vibrant pink in flight across an ocean dappled with sunlight. looming, magnificent palm trees set the scene and ground us within this tropical oasis.
