dan whiteson is a young portrait and figurative painter from london. he studied at central saint martins and now lives and works out of his studio in tottenham. he has a fascination for the human condition and more recently worked on the impact of the digital age on human physicality.

this is an original pen on paper drawing measuring 29.5 x 41.7 cm.

‘david is another wonderful soul, and an artist in his own right. i was really drawn to this pose because of the contradictions in the form. the solid, heavy feeling base of the right leg contrasting with the elegance of the twisted left; the raised heel creating a lovely secondary focal point. so much of the tension and power in the pose comes from the core and i wanted to attempt to show how that energy converges on that point. the beautiful sweep of the spine and right arm leading into the portrait creates the perfect topping.’ - dan whiteson
