the artist
anna is a local walthamstow-based artist who focuses on printmaking and runs inky cuttlefish studios in gnome house. born in south africa, anna studied fine art at the university of natal and then later graduated from the university of the arts london with a masters in printmaking. her delicate and distinctive lino prints have become well known across e17 and have reached various corners of the globe. she has passionate ties to africa which reveal themselves in her practice, as well as fascinations with folklore, mythology, legends and the afterlife.
the story
one of anna’s favourite places to sit is on the banks of the coppermill stream at walthamstow wetlands. she can often be found here - painting, drawing, watching and listening. listening to the sound of the trickles and splashes, the water fowl and ducks, the insects and the wind in the trees – imagining they are whispering to each other. over the years anna has spent many joyful days walking between the reservoirs, canals and streams with her family. this abundant joy is evident in this artwork – a true celebration of a happy place and local haven.
